Customer and account statuses show whether services for these entities are active or restricted in PortaBilling:

  • Customer status reflects the overall service state for the customer.
  • Account status applies to individual accounts under that customer and can differ from the customer’s status (e.g., an account may be Expired while the customer remains Active). Statuses can also vary between accounts belonging to the same customer.

What statuses affect

A status determines:

  • Service access – whether a customer or account can make calls, use data, or access other services.
  • Billing behavior – whether recurring and usage charges are applied or temporarily stopped.
  • Portal access – whether the customer or account can log in to the self-care web interface.
  • Dual Version migration state – whether the customer or account has been transferred to a target system or the transfer is in progress.

How changes in status occur

Statuses can be changed automatically or manually:

  • Automatic changes – the system updates statuses automatically when specific events occur. For example, the customer’s status may depend on the invoice status: when an invoice becomes Overdue, the customer’s status changes to Suspended; once the invoice is paid, the system restores it to Active.
  • Manual changes – admins can manually update the status for a customer or account (e.g., to block an account with detected fraudulent traffic).

Each change takes effect immediately, adjusting service access and billing according to the new state.

Relationship between customer and account statuses

Accounts usually inherit their customer’s status, but can also have individual statuses:

  • If a customer is blocked or suspended, all their accounts display an inherited status, such as "Customer blocked" or "Customer suspended," and their services are stopped.
  • An account may have statuses similar to customer statuses, such as Blocked or Suspended. These are not inherited and reflect only the state of a specific account.
  • Some statuses, such as Expired, Overdraft, or Screened, can be used only for accounts.

PortaBilling always displays the most critical (highest-priority) status for an account, whether inherited or individual.

Where to check statuses

You can view statuses in the PortaBilling web interface:

  • In the customer or account list, in the Status column.
  • On the customer or account details page, the current status is shown next to the customer or account name.
