Add service policy

Link copied to clipboard

Service policies allow you to fine-tune your services based on your network peculiarities, vendors’ abilities, and customers’ demands. In a service policy, you can configure a set of static options that can be applied to multiple accounts (so you don’t need to configure each option for each account separately). It also allows you to separate the configuration of technical options (usually made by technical staff) from account management.

Service policies can be:

  • statically assigned at various levels: product, account, connection and call authorization rule;
  • dynamically matched against each call/message and applied if the specified pattern matches user agent type (for voice calls) or recipient’s domain name or CLD (for messaging services).

Policies are applied separately to both parties (calling and called) participating in the call.

The final set of attributes applied to calling/called party is derived from service policies assigned at different levels (and dynamically matched policies are also considered.)

Note that service policy attributes that have been statically assigned to an account receive the highest priority. If the policy is statically assigned to an account, it will always be applied (the match pattern is ignored for this account).

To add a new service policy, click + Policy on the Service policy list panel and fill in the details. To save the service policy configuration, click Save. To save and continue editing the service policy details, click Save & Edit details. To create more service policies, click Save & Add a copy.

On this tab, you can define general settings for a service policy.

Service

Link copied to clipboard

Choose one of the service types: Voice calls, Messaging service, or Internet access.

Name

Link copied to clipboard

Specify a name for the service policy. The name should be unique for the particular service type.

Managed by

Link copied to clipboard

This field is available for Internet access service policies. Choose whether the service policy is managed by an administrator or a particular reseller.

Description

Link copied to clipboard

This is a short description of the service policy.

Also, this field is used in the Internet access service policy to configure Sharing an Internet quota among multiple devices (you can specify “verify_mac=alias” or “verify_mac=customer” to activate the NetAccessVerifyMAC module).

Match policy based on

Link copied to clipboard

Select the protocol used to match the service policy: SIP or Diameter.

UserAgent pattern

Link copied to clipboard

This field is available for Voice calls service policies and specifies a pattern for the user agent (UA) type. If this field is filled, PortaSIP uses its value to dynamically match against every new call from/to internal accounts. If the specified pattern matches the caller/callee UA type, the policy attributes apply to this call. This field can contain either a full UA name (e.g., Linksys/SPA941-5.1.8) or a list of patterns separated by a comma (e.g., Cisco%,Sipura%,Grandstream%).

Recipient domain pattern

Link copied to clipboard

This field is available for Messaging service policies and specifies the recipient’s domain name or CLD. If this field is filled, PortaSIP uses its value to dynamically match against every new message from/to internal accounts. If the specified pattern matches the recipient domain, the policy attributes (i.e., transport protocol, routing and billing parameters) are used for processing and delivery of messages (both SMS and instant messages). For example, if you want to allow your end users to send SMS messages to any mobile network, type %. If you only allow end users to send SMS to a specific mobile operator, specify the pattern as follows: %XXX% (e.g., %380% for all mobile operators in Ukraine or %38050% for Vodafone Ukraine). Thus, when a user sends an SMS to +38055551122, PortaSIP matches the number with the pattern (e.g., %380%) and applies the service policy attributes.

Attribute pattern

Link copied to clipboard

This field is available for service policies matched based on Diameter (Ro/Gy) requests.

Enter a key=value pattern to match incoming Diameter requests. If the request contains an attribute that matches this pattern, PortaBilling applies this service policy automatically.

This is typically used to identify requests from specific mobile core elements (for example, packet gateways). For example, “Origin-Host=%.company.domain” matches any host within that realm (such as pgw1.company.domain or pgw2.company.domain).

Only matching requests will have this policy applied (i.e., the Ignore user name option).

Match priority

Link copied to clipboard

This is only used for policies that match dynamically (Voice service policies must have the UserAgent pattern field filled and Messaging service policies must have the Recipient domain pattern field filled). So, if more than one service policy matches, then the one with the highest priority is used.

Hotlining

Link copied to clipboard

Available for Internet access service policies only. To enable hotlining, select one or both checkboxes:

  • If account is out of funds – select this checkbox to redirect end users if their traffic quota has exceeded or if they have insufficient balance to access the Internet.
  • If account is suspended or blocked – select this checkbox to redirect end-users whose accounts are blocked, suspended, or expired.

On this tab, you can define how an end user is allowed to access the Internet.

The Access policy tab is available only for the Internet access service policy.

Scheduling table

Link copied to clipboard

You can define what type of Internet access is provided during each time period.

To define when a specific Internet access type is used, select the Internet access type (e.g., Regular) and manually select the required days on the calendar.

There are four types of Internet access:

  • Regular – the end-user can access the Internet with a regular download/upload speed.
  • Turbo – the end-user can access the Internet with a higher download/upload speed during the off-peak hours.
  • Limited – the end-user can access the Internet with a limited download/upload speed.
  • Blocked – the end-user has no access to the Internet, only to the captive portal.

To clear the table, click Clear.
