Account type

Link copied to clipboard

Select the type for accounts by switching between three options:

  • Debit – the account has its own balance, and services are used only if funds are available.
  • Credit – services are used first, and the charges are invoiced later.
  • Voucher – an account used to “recharge” a credit or debit account. In this case, the balance of the voucher account is transferred to the main account. An account of this type cannot be used for services such as making calls.

Account role

Link copied to clipboard

The account role defines the intended use of the account, whether it is a phone line, a voucher, or a prepaid card.

PortaBilling suggests the most suitable account role, depending on the customer's business model. You can select another role from the list:

  • Universal – you can use these accounts for any purpose. This account role is used with each business model.
Avoid using the Universal account role for converged services, since different services often require different account ID formats and cannot share the same Universal account. For instance, if you provide both mobile and SIP services, assign specific account roles instead (follow the account setup recommendations in the following chapter).
  • Phone line – intended for making and receiving calls.
  • Prepaid card – intended for prepaid calling card services.
  • Mobile – intended for mobile service provisioning.
  • Voucher – intended for replenishing debit or credit accounts.

Opening balance

Link copied to clipboard

This option is only available for debit accounts and vouchers. Specify the initial amount of available funds on an account.

Balance control

Link copied to clipboard

This option is available for credit accounts. Select one of the balance control types:

  • Subordinate (default) – the accounts use the customer’s balance and credit limit.
  • Individual credit limit – each account has its own balance and credit limit. When the balance reaches the limit, services are no longer available for the account. The customer’s balance also affects service availability.

This option appears if you select the Individual credit limit balance control type. Specify the credit limit for the generated accounts.

Lifecycle

Requires manual activation

Link copied to clipboard

This option is only available for debit accounts and vouchers. Select this checkbox to create inactive accounts, so they cannot be used until they are manually activated. This helps prevent any misuse of services.

Activation

Link copied to clipboard

Specify when the generated accounts become usable:

  • Immediately (default)
  • At a specific date – the accounts become usable according to the customer’s billing time zone. For example, if your time zone is Sydney and you generate accounts for a customer in New York and set the activation date as today, the accounts will become usable only when that date begins in New York.

To define date after which account can no longer be used, set at least one parameter:

Expiration date

Link copied to clipboard

The date from which the generated accounts are unusable. Note that this date is in the customer’s billing time zone.

To set the expiration date, click Calendar calendar-1 or specify the date manually in the YYYY-MM-DD format in the Expiration date field. To change an already set expiration date, click Cancel cancel and select a new date.

Availability period after first usage, days

Link copied to clipboard

Instead of setting a static expiration date, you can configure the account expiration based on the number of days after its first usage. Specify the number of days the account remains active after its first usage or recharge.

Availability period after last usage, days

Link copied to clipboard

Instead of setting a static expiration date, you can configure the account expiration based on the number of days after its last usage. Specify the number of days the account remains active after its last usage or recharge.

The next day after the defined period, the account record automatically expires (the status changes to “Expired)”. For instance, the account’s last usage is on March 1st. If you set “25” in the Availability period after last usage, days field, the account record expires the next day after the defined period, which is on March 27th.

If you set an expiration date and limit the availability period based on the first/last usage, the account status will change to “Expired” on whichever date comes first.
An account with the “Expired” status can no longer access any services, including emergency calls. To extend the life cycle for the account that has automatically expired, you can increase the existing availability period.

Generation method

Link copied to clipboard
  • Random – each account is assigned a unique, randomly generated PIN.
  • Sequential – account IDs are generated in sequence, starting from the number you specify in the Starting ID field. Each new account receives the next number in order.
  • DID inventory – account IDs are assigned from the available phone numbers in your DID inventory. Each generated account receives one DID from the selected range. Select a Pricing batch, and optionally filter by Country and Area. If needed, specify the starting number in Assign DIDs sequentially starting with field.

ID length

Link copied to clipboard

Specify the account ID (PIN) length. This is the number of digits, including the ID prefix (e.g., 10).

ID prefix

Link copied to clipboard

Specify the digits that the generated account IDs should start with. Note that the ID prefix is included in the total ID length. For example, if you enter 12 as the prefix and set the ID length to 10, the generated account IDs (PINs) will follow this pattern: 12NNNNNNNN, where N = random digits.

Service password

Link copied to clipboard

Choose whether an account password should be generated (for example, for prepaid cards, the password can be used during authentication in addition to a PIN).

The Auto-generated (digits only) option allows the password to be entered via phone keys in the IVR.

Note that for credit accounts, the password is always auto-generated.
