Two parameters define the life cycle of an account:
- Activation date
- Expiration date
Activation date
Every account has an activation date, which is the date from when the account can be used. For example, if the administrator sets up mobile accounts in November and sets the activation date to December 1st, the SIM cards cannot be used before that date.
The account is activated according to the customer's billing time zone – at 00:00 on the specified date. For example, if the administrator is in Sydney and the customer is in New York, an account with the activation date of December 1 becomes active at 00:00 Eastern time on December 1.
An account can also be created in the inactive state without a specific activation date. This allows the administrator to complete the service configuration in advance and manually activate the account.
Expiration date
The expiration date defines when an account can no longer be used. There are three ways to configure it:
- Specific date – the account expires at 00:00 on the specified date, in the customer’s billing time zone. For example, if March 20th is set as the expiration date, the account can be used until 23:59 on March 19th.
- Account availability after the first usage – the account remains available for the specified number of days after it is used for the first time. For example, if the availability period is 120 days and the first usage occurs on March 1st at 11:00, the account can be used until 23:59 on June 28th and expires on June 29th.
- Account availability after the last usage – the account remains available for the specified number of days after the last usage. For example, if the availability period is 60 days and the last usage occurs on March 1st at 11:00, the account can be used until 23:59 on April 29th and expires on April 30th.
You can configure one expiration option or combine several. All configured options have equal priority, and the account expires when whichever condition is met first.
Setting an expiration date is optional, so an account can also be created without one.
How to extend the account life cycle
To extend the life cycle of an expired account, change the configured expiration settings. For example, if the account expired 10 days after the last usage and needs to be reactivated, increase the value of the Account availability after the last usage option from 10 to 20. This extends the account life cycle by an additional 10 days.
A voucher top-up also extends the account life cycle. For example, if an account is configured to remain available for 60 days after the first usage and the account owner tops it up 57 days after that first usage, the service is extended for another 60 days. The same logic applies when account expiration is based on last usage.
