A payment processor is a company that enables businesses to accept electronic payments (e.g., payments made with credit cards or digital wallets). It acts as a mediator between a payer (customer), a merchant (business), and the relevant financial institutions (banks).
PortaBilling integrates with external payment processors to allow service providers to accept electronic payments from customers, receive transaction results, update customer balances, and maintain payment history.
To process payments through a payment processor, a service provider must have a merchant account. The service provider signs up with the payment processor to accept payments. Then they configure the payment system in PortaBilling with the payment processor credentials and other parameters (such as payment methods).
To enable online payments in PortaBilling via the Authorize.Net payment processor, the flow is as follows:
- The service provider opens a merchant account with Authorize.Net.
- Authorize.Net issues API credentials.
- The service provider creates a payment system in PortaBilling using the Authorize.Net payment processor and enters these credentials in the payment system settings.
- PortaBilling uses the Authorize.Net API to authenticate and process transactions.
