Transfer service volumes between end users

Transfer of service volumes allows users, such as mobile subscribers, to share money or purchased service units (e.g., minutes, GB, or SMS) allocated within a specific bundle item with others who have a similar bundle item, such as friends or family.

You can allow your customers to use this feature via your own app or web portal using the PortaBilling API (the DiscountPlan/make_transaction method).

1. A user selects a bundle item with the transfer option enabled and specifies the amount of units/money to transfer.
2. The user enters the recipient’s phone number, which can be stored either as the account ID or in a separate Phone field (predefined by the admin in the Personal info > General info > Address info tab).
3. For security purposes, the system sends an email or an SMS with a verification code to the user. This code expires in 3 minutes and becomes invalid after the 3 unsuccessful attempts. As soon as the user enters the correct verification code, the specified service volume is transferred to the recipient.

To enable users to transfer service volumes, the following requirements must be met:

• The currency of the sender and recipient must be the same.
• Accounts of both the sender and the recipient must be managed by the admin or the same reseller.
• The transfer must be enabled for the sender.
• Both the sender and the recipient should use a bundle that includes a bundle item with the same service, code group, service volume (measured either in monetary equivalent or service units), and off-peak period configuration (for Renewable by calendar bundle type).
• Both the sender’s and the recipient’s bundles must be assigned in the same way: either via a product (add-on or main) or directly to their accounts.

To allow service volume exchanges, enable the Allow unused units transfer option within a specific bundle item.

End users can create a favorites list to include recipients they regularly transfer service volumes to, such as family members or friends. For example, if Jane frequently transfers service units to Alex, she can add his contact to her favorites list. This makes future transfers as easy as selecting Alex from the list with just a few clicks.
