Solution suitability
Does PortaOne provide connectivity services or SIM cards?
No. PortaOne provides a software platform to manage IoT/M2M services and accounts (PortaBilling) and a self-care portal where customers manage their SIM cards, payments, and invoices (the IoT and M2M Portal).
SIM cards and connectivity are supplied by your connectivity partner (e.g., MNO, MVNO, MVNE) in the countries where you operate. We have completed interoperability testing between PortaBilling and multiple connectivity vendors. To launch faster, we recommend selecting a vendor from our partner list based on your specific needs and requirements.
What are the key features of the IoT and M2M Portal?
The IoT and M2M portal provides the following features:
- SIM card management – add or remove SIM cards, assign service plans, and manage data bundles.
- Product management – view and change service plans assigned to the SIM cards. Customers can also share service volumes between multiple SIM cards with the same plan.
- Billing management – view invoices and purchase history.
- Dashboard – view SIM card details, usage info for each SIM card, and usage history.
Additionally, you can embed external web pages into your portal where customers can order a new SIM card and review service terms and warranty information.
Can we provision eSIMs alongside physical SIMs using the IoT and M2M Portal?
Yes, the IoT and M2M Portal can be used to manage both eSIMs and physical SIMs. In PortaBilling, there is no difference between an eSIM and a physical SIM. Both are stored and managed as SIM records using the same identifiers and authentication data (for example, IMSI and related keys). As a result, the portal can display and manage eSIMs in the same way as physical SIMs.
To provision and deliver eSIM profiles to users, you still need an eSIM platform (either provided by your MNO or a third-party solution). While PortaBilling can store eSIM-related data, the actual profile delivery is performed by the eSIM platform.
If your MNO does not provide an eSIM provisioning platform, integration with an external eSIM platform is possible. For example, PortaOne has implemented an integration with the Nordic eSIM platform using PortaOne Workflows. The same approach can be used to integrate with other eSIM platforms.

Deployment
Can we deploy the IoT and M2M Portal in our on-premises data center?
The IoT Portal is hosted as a web application in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and cannot be deployed in an on-premises data center. Hosting the portal in OCI does not mean that customer data is stored in OCI or moved to another country. When a user opens the portal, the browser loads only the portal’s web interface (a set of static HTML and JavaScript files) from OCI. All further operations are performed directly between the user’s browser and your on-premises system via the PortaBilling API, so customer data remains within your infrastructure.
For example, even if the portal is hosted in an OCI data center in Germany while your PortaSwitch is located in France, all customer data exchanges stay within France and are not stored in or routed through OCI.
However, if you enable the optional middleware (proxy between the portal and PortaSwitch), customer data will pass through the middleware host, so its deployment location must comply with your data-residency and security requirements.
Is a free trial available for the IoT and M2M Portal via the Add-on Mart?
Yes. Activate the IoT and M2M Portal module in the Add-on Mart, and a 30-day free trial will be automatically available.
Does PortaOne provide support, maintenance, and monitoring of the IoT and M2M Portal?
Yes. After you deploy the IoT Portal, PortaOne Support is notified automatically and will contact you to confirm the deployment. From that point on, PortaOne support team monitors the portal and ensures it operates in a high-availability setup.
Portal branding
Can we customize the IoT and M2M Portal?
Yes, you can deploy the IoT Portal and brand it with your name and logos based on your company’s branding guidelines.
Can we brand the IoT and M2M Portal for our partner?
If you work with sales partners like resellers or independent operators, you can brand the portal for each reseller or billing environment owner individually. This includes deploying a separate instance of the portal with the logo and name of the reseller company or independent operator, in line with their branding requirements.
